Industrial hardware for serious production environments.

Camera selection, lighting design, and mounting hardware configured for your line geometry and defect type.

Three camera technologies for different inspection requirements

Camera type is determined by your conveyor speed, part geometry, and the physics of the defect you need to detect.

Industrial machine vision camera mounted above a production line conveyor with ring lighting

2D Area Scan

Best for discrete parts on a stop-and-go or slow-speed conveyor. Captures a rectangular field of view per trigger event. Resolution: 2–20 megapixels.

Best for: Stamped metal parts, PCB assemblies, plastic trim

Max speed: Up to 30 m/min

Compatible cameras: Cognex In-Sight, Basler ace2, Allied Vision Alvium

2D Line Scan

Continuously captures a single line across the part as it moves. Assembles a complete image from the line sequence. Ideal for high-speed continuous material.

Best for: CPG labels, high-speed packaging, web material

Max speed: Up to 120 m/min

Compatible cameras: Basler racer2, Cognex 8000 series

3D Structured Light

Projects a known pattern onto the part surface and captures the deformation to calculate 3D geometry. Required for depth-critical defects.

Best for: Casting flatness, weld bead height, gasket depth

Max speed: Up to 12 m/min

Compatible sensors: LMI Gocator, Cognex 3D-A1000

Lighting configuration drives defect detectability

The right illumination makes marginal defects visible. Wrong illumination makes obvious defects invisible.

Lighting type Best for Defects revealed
Coaxial Specular surfaces (PCB solder, polished metal) Solder joint geometry, surface gloss anomalies, shallow scratches on polished surfaces
Ring (diffuse) General inspection, matte surfaces Label defects, component presence, assembly completeness
Backlight Silhouette and dimension inspection Part profile deviation, hole position, missing features
Darkfield Surface texture anomalies on matte parts Surface scratches, dents, cast skin defects on non-specular surfaces
Structured light 3D depth measurement Flatness deviation, weld bead height, gasket compression depth

IP-rated enclosures for harsh plant environments

Enclosure specifications
Ingress protection IP67 (standard), NEMA 4X (washdown option)
Operating temperature -10°C to 55°C ambient
Humidity 10% to 90% non-condensing
Vibration tolerance Per IEC 60068-2-6 (5–500Hz, 2G)
Shock tolerance Per IEC 60068-2-27 (30G, 11ms)

Mounting options

Camera mounting brackets are custom-designed to your conveyor geometry. Standard options include:

  • Overhead gantry mount — suspended above conveyor, adjustable height and angle
  • Side-mount bracket — attaches to conveyor frame rail
  • Floor pedestal — freestanding, for existing lines where conveyor modification is not permitted
  • Rotary turntable integration — 360° inspection of rotationally symmetric parts
